overhead-pressSince starting my internship at Cressey Sports Performance, my knowledge of shoulder anatomy and function has grown by leaps and bounds. Which is great, because we work with dozens of professional baseball players on a daily basis. But we also see tons of non-athletes who have shoulder issues from overuse, poor posture or less-than-great lifting technique.

We don’t do much overhead pressing with our athletes at CSP, simply because the risk outweighs the reward for someone who makes lots of money by throwing a baseball really hard. But there’s no denying that if you want to get really strong and you don’t pitch for a living, pressing heavy weight overhead should be a staple in your lifting program.
