Arguing on the internet is dumb. But at least now we’re not arguing about whether squats are good or bad. Now, we’re arguing about what’s better – front squats or back squats. It’s still silly, but at least that means lots of people are squatting.
Is one really better than the other? That question needs some context. Are you a powerlifter? If you are, then back squats are better, because you have to do them in competition. Are you a weightlifter? If so, then front squats are better, because you have to front squat out of the hole after catching a clean.
But what if you’re a team sport athlete, like a football player or a basketball player? Surely we must choose one or the other! We want answers! Definitive, concrete, unwavering answers!
The only definitive answer is that you don’t have to choose one or the other. SPOILER ALERT! They both get you strong. They both get you powerful. They both promote mobility and stability in all the right places. All these things will make you a better athlete.
OK, but how do we choose the right squat for us? I answer all that and more in my latest article on Stack.com. Check it out:
